Resurrection Sunday

Resurrection Sunday

After Jesus’ crucifixion, His disciples were confused and despondent.

Early Sunday morning, Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of James, and Salome went to the tomb to anoint Jesus’ body.

An angel appeared after an earthquake, rolling away the stone; the guards fainted in fear.

The angel announced to the women that Jesus had risen, as He had foretold multiple times throughout His ministry.

The women ran to tell the disciples; Peter and John raced to the tomb and found it empty with Jesus’ grave clothes neatly arranged.

John believed upon seeing the evidence; Mary remained, weeping, and encountered Jesus, recognizing Him only when He spoke her name.

Jesus sent Mary to tell the others of His resurrection, but initially, the disciples did not believe her.

Meanwhile, two followers met Jesus on the road to Emmaus but didn’t recognize Him at first.

The Roman guards, instead of reporting to Roman authorities, went to the chief priests and were bribed to spread the lie that Jesus’ body was stolen.

Later that evening, Jesus appeared to the disciples, proving He was alive by showing His wounds and eating with them.

The resurrection fulfilled God’s eternal plan of salvation, reconciling humanity to God.

Jesus later ascended into Heaven, as witnessed by His disciples, and is preparing a place for believers (John 14:2-6).
